I've Rebuilt MoneyPlan Around One Idea

You don’t have to figure out your finances alone. I’ve rebuilt MoneyPlan around one idea: giving you an expert set of eyes on your financial situation, a clear and prescriptive plan, and the confidence that the decisions you make next are the right ones for you.

Most people who come to me are not in financial trouble. They are doing reasonably well. They earn a decent income, they manage their expenses, they have a mortgage or are thinking about one. On the surface, things look fine.

What they are missing is clarity. A concrete understanding of whether the decisions they are making today are actually building toward the future they want, or just maintaining the present. That gap between managing money and building with it is where most people quietly lose years of progress.

I built MoneyPlan to close that gap. Not with generic advice, and not with a product to sell. With a written, prescriptive financial plan built specifically around your situation, your income, and your goals. Expert eyes on your finances. A clear direction. And someone standing beside you who has done this before.

If you are making a financial decision without a clear map, this is for you

MoneyPlan has deep roots in the health professional community, and that expertise has not gone anywhere. But the same gap between earning and building well shows up across many situations, and the plan-first approach works for all of them. Today I work mainly with three groups.

  • Professionals. You earn well, your time is tight, and your money has been managed in pieces: a KiwiSaver here, an insurance policy there, a mortgage somewhere else. You need someone to look at the whole picture at once.
  • Business owners. Your income, your business and your personal finances are tangled together, and the decisions you make in one change the others. You need a plan that covers both sides, including how you pay yourself.
  • People approaching retirement. You are close enough to see the finish line and want to know whether the numbers actually work, and what to do in the next few years to make sure they do.

What these three situations share is not an income level or a career stage. It is the absence of a written plan built specifically around their circumstances, with someone experienced enough to tell them not just what the options are, but which one they should actually choose and why.

Not a list of options. A clear recommendation.

A lot of financial advice ends at information. Here are the things you could do. Here are the trade-offs. Here are the factors to consider. Then the client is left to make the decision themselves, with more information than they started with but no more certainty about what to do next.

That is not how I work.

When I look at your financial situation, I tell you what I think you should do. Not what you could do. What I would do if I were in your position, and why. You can push back, ask questions, and disagree. But you will never leave a session without a clear recommendation on the table.

This approach comes from two things. First, professional rigour: I have formally studied and certified my knowledge, so the recommendations I make are grounded in frameworks that have been tested, not opinions assembled from reading. Second, personal experience: I reached financial independence before 50, starting seriously in my thirties, using the same principles I now build into client plans. I am not advising from a textbook. I am advising from a path I have walked.

Most financial products are sold before you have a plan

Plan first. Product second. Always.

MoneyPlan is fee-only and independent. I do not receive commissions on any product. The plan is the deliverable. If a product turns out to be part of the right answer, I refer to specialist partners for implementation. The advice and the sale are always separate.

This matters more than it might seem. When an adviser earns a commission on what they recommend, the recommendation is shaped by that fact, even when the adviser is trying hard to be objective. The only way to remove that distortion completely is to remove the commission entirely. That is what fee-only advice means, and it is the only model I operate under.

A clear process. A written output. A specific direction.

A MoneyPlan engagement starts with a free 30-minute discovery session. No preparation required. You show up, tell me what is on your mind financially, and I tell you what I see and what I think the priority questions are. You leave with at least one concrete insight regardless of what happens next.

If we proceed, the work produces a written financial plan. Not a folder of product brochures. A document that answers the specific questions that matter for your situation: Is your income structure optimal? Is your debt strategy correct? Are your investments doing the right work? What does your retirement trajectory actually look like? What should you do next, in order, with specifics?

The plan is yours. You take it with you. You can act on it yourself, work through it with me, or share it with whoever else is involved in your financial life. The goal is that you leave knowing exactly where you stand and exactly what to do next. No ambiguity. No “it depends.” A clear direction.

Ongoing, I am available for annual reviews, specific decisions as they arise, and the kind of check-in that confirms you are still on track. You do not have to navigate any of it alone.

You are capable of managing your own finances. You deserve better than managing them alone.

You have built a career. You make good decisions under pressure. You are not someone who needs to be rescued from their own finances. What you deserve is a qualified, independent perspective from someone who has no incentive to sell you anything and every incentive to give you their honest best thinking.

That is what MoneyPlan is. That is what I offer. And the first conversation costs you nothing except thirty minutes.
